Napkin Folded Pillow Cases

I recently subscribed to Martha Stewart's Craft of the Day emails and it got me searching on her site at all of her great craft ideas! One that I loved was her Napkin Folded Pillow Cases. This weekend, while shopping with the fam, mom and I picked out some cute napkins and last night I made a pillow!

Her step by step instructions are here. I did tweak it a little bit, she says you only need to stitch 2 inches down each side and I stitched the entire way down, mainly because the puffy pillow form it was causing it to gape open. It is more work this way but a much better outcome!

I love how easy it is to make and for such a little investment! The pillow forms are around $8 at Wal-mart and I got the napkin for $10 at Target (it came in a pack of 4.) If you go look at the instructions, check out the other crafts she has listed, most of them are so simple! I can't wait to make more of these pillows!!!

  2. Hey Katie, Just found your site at the Martha Stewart craft site. Smart thinking to leave your blog address at that site. I am gonna try to make this pillow today! And I'm your newest follower! Happy Labor Day weekend!

  3. And I think you could make this with any 20" to 22" square of fabric. Just hem the four sides and follow the directions. Got to try one of these.

  4. Left Martha's site to check out your blog. I may be a year late, she just reposted the directions for her napkin pillow, so I just saw it. I am glad that you enjoyed making it and thanks for the tip on the sewing of more sides. It makes sounds right to me. I am putting this on my list to try. Just don't hold your breath waiting for me to let you know how much I enjoyed doing it. I am a quilter, so always hate more pans in the fire than I know what to do with. But, thanks again.

    1. It's original use is for wrapping meats that you want to freeze. I found a blog post on how to make your own if you don't have access to the Reynold's Freezer Paper, I think they are the only ones who make it. Here is the link: http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-your-own-freezer-paper./

  6. I have a fabric store that sells all types of fabric for $3.00/yd. You can make your own "napkin" (and coordinate it with curtains, etc) - Just cut a square slightly larger than 20" and hem the edge on the sewing machine. Then proceed with the project. This is a great idea.... I MUST sign up for Martha's craft of the day!!!

  7. Are you sewing the two bottom sides with the machine or by hand? Do you sew the top also or is it left open?

    1. I sewed the bottom sides by hand and left the top open with just the button holding it closed. It makes for an easy switch when I want to change pillow covers!

  8. I just bought a 16" pillow. Can anyone help me with the extra dimensions for the napkin? I actually bought some fabric instead of napkins.
