Pedestal Glass Vases

While exploring in the home decor blog world recently, I stumbled upon a great blog that I am now following,  The Adventures of Ordy and Joon. One post caught my eye in particular, a tutorial on how to make pedestal vases.
I thought they were so cute and once I realized that I already had all of the needed supplies at home, I decided to make some!

You really only need vases, candlesticks, and glue! I had these two vases under my kitchen sink (apparently my rule against throwing out glass finally paid off- the "vase" on the left used to be a candle from Target that I cleaned out after I had burnt the candle down after months of using it! The fish bowl shaped vase is from flowers that the hubs bought me the night he proposed! I have always loved the fish bowl shape but had never used it again!)

I also had candlesticks left over from my serving tray Christmas gifts that came in handy as my bases!

After giving my vases a good cleaning I used my Gorilla Glue pen to glue the two pieces together. Since I was using all glass, I used my CLEAR gorilla glue, nothing kills a glass project like the yucky color of regular gorilla glue! I then let them dry for a few hours, scraping off the excess glue that seeps out as it "grows."

TAADAA! I filled mine with some "natural elements." For the vase on the left I used parts of a fall vase filler I had lying around, with all of the dried pumpkins removed! Now it is just a lot of brown: cinnamon sticks, baby pine cones, and a few other random brown things. The fish bowl one has what Wal-mart calls "moss rocks" that I found in their floral/vase filler section.

I also love Joon's idea from her post of filling them with candy for parties and showers! What a cheap alternative to apothecary jars!

Here they are in their new homes! At least for now! These shelves are being painted soon and I am excited to see these vases really pop off of the new lighter color!
